Silver Starling

PROMO VIDEO FOR KANYE/GAGA TOUR (VIDEO)!

Fame Kills Tour promo poster

A promo video in support of Kanye West and Lady GaGa’s joint tour dubbed “Fame Kills Starring Kanye West and Lady GaGa” has been unleashed. Less than a minute in length, the footage features GaGa posing topless for the camera. She is seen covering her right breast with her left hand.

The sounds of animals and thunder can be heard in the video. Though so, West is not seen starring in the promo.

Tour dates for “Fame Kills Starring Kanye West and Lady GaGa” have been announced earlier last week. West and GaGa are slated to kick off the the roadshow on November 10 at US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The show will be running through January next year.

Tickets for the tour, in the meantime, are confirmed to go on sale to the general public in select markets on Friday, September 25 at LiveNation.com. (via aceshowbiz)

Single Of The Week - 21/9

Beyoncé - Broken-Hearted Girl (Columbia)

It’s been some year for Beyoncé’, an award winning video, an over done Halo, bunch of bad dreams and a sore hand (to say the least.) But Beyoncé’s back again and aims to finish 2009 with a bang with the 5th single from her platinum album “I Am Sasha Fierce”, “Broken-Hearted Girl.” Expect to hear this all over the radio in the coming weeks as it’s another ballady Beyoncé’ one! A little Beyonce fact for you all incase it comes up in a pub quiz, all the singles from ‘Sasha Fierce’ so far collectively have sold 1.7 million copies collectively (impressive!)

For us clubbers the remix package for ‘Broken-Hearted Girl’ is nothing short of spectacular with mixes from Alan Braxe, Olli Collins + Fred Portelli and a return for Gareth Wyn who’s remix of Duffy’s 2008 #1 ‘Mercy’ smashed up in clubs all over the world! ‘Broken-Hearted Girl’ is available to download now and is out physically on November the 2nd as well as the Platinum Edition of Beyoncé’’s 3rd album ‘I Am Sasha Fierce’ which includes a bonus DVD and brand new artwork – whoa-uh-oh!

Microsoft's Touchscreen Device - Alleged Mock-Up

Apple Insider, via Gizmodo, have released mock-up images of Microsoft’s new tablet device.

The authenticity of this piece is highly questionable coming from Gizmodo who, earlier this year, implied Steve Jobs was all but dead, based on “reliable sources.”

Besides, we all know Microsoft can’t release this device until they see what Apple has done.

In all fairness, the Microsoft “slablet” looks quite ludicrous, as well as ugly, so this could actually be the real deal from Redmond.

Still no word yet on whether the real estate is for sale across the street from the Apple tablet.

Er weiss, was meinem Herzen fehlt
Für wen es schlägt und glüth
Er weiss für wen
Komm! Komm! Komm!
Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt
Von einem Herzen, das mir fehlt!

Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt
Von einem Glück unsagbar schön
Er weiss, was meinem Herzen fehlt
Für wen es schlägt und glüth
Er weiss für wen
Komm! Komm!
Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt
Von einem Herzen, das mir fehlt!

Cheryol Cole - Fight For This Love Video

So the video for Cheryl Cole’s debut single has been released. My impressions are that it’s very forgettable and Cheryl will never be believable as a genuine crumping, street dancer. The video is weird, it doesn’t seem to have a clear direction, but oh well, it’s nice to see her trying

Ο συνεσταλμένος  Ισλανδός Sindri Mar Sigfusson άρχισε το Seabear σα μοναχικό παιχνίδι, για να καταλήξει με το εξαιρετικό the ghost that carried us away του ‘07 σε σεπτέτο. Fight For This Love Video Debuts

The eagerly anticipated solo debut of Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole, Fight For This Love, was played for the first time on radio almost two weeks ago. Last night the video premiered on the UK’s ITV1.

Not only does the video manage to make Cheryl look gorgeous in every scene (which is, admittedly, a rather easy feat), but it does the song justice without appearing too tried. The gorgeous backgrounds, outfits, and lively dance moves compliment Cheryl’s ridiculously good looks and the fantastic song very well. A+

MIKA - The Boy Who Knew Too Much

Vandaag verscheen het 2e album van Mika, “The Boy Who Knew Too Much”.

“Dr.

Notícias do dia

A “pior”…

'we gotta fight fight fight fight fight for this love'

as many of you are no doubt aware. i love girls. they are amazing. end of. you may also recall that cheryl cole was rather ceremoniously dropped to least favourite on my aloudometer after dissing the spice girls. anyway, after working non-stop since forming in 2002 the girls are taking a year off to focus on their own projects and cheryl is the first with a single and album out that is sure to do well, come as it does during her mentor duties on the x factor.

the point of this whole build up is that ‘fight for this love’ is amazing. it’s not the all out pop more favoured by girls aloud but rather an r&b flavoured down tempo affair. it’s incredibly catchy, a definite grower and just really surprisingly good. not at all what you’d expect from a cheryl cole solo effort. it sounds quite like a ryan tedder song, and that’s not bad. i’m thinking this has the potential to be huge if she does a great video. please make a great video cheryl.

FACT: if cheryl cole makes a video in which she beats up a washroom attendant while out at a club, she will be reinstated as my favourite girl aloud with total immunity; her position never to be questioned again. (sorry nicola)

quick sidenote, there’s a line in the song that goes ‘drive it fast but let’s go slow’ that for my first few listens i thought was ‘drive a vespa let’s go slow.’ embarrassing.

anyway, here it is.

Becks and Cheryl 'are role models'

Footballers and pop stars are the best role models for children, according to a new poll, which found most adults believe youngsters have no one to look up to.

Almost two-thirds of adults believe school-age children do not have appropriate role models in their lives, according to research by The Children’s Society.

David Beckham was rated as setting the best example for children – more than half (55%) of those questioned said he was a good, or very good role model, compared to 18% who said he sets a bad example.

Singer Cheryl Cole came second, with 40% rating her positively, compared to 27% who said she was a bad role model. Homer Simpson was voted the worst role model.

The National Mentoring Initiative poll, which questioned over 2,000 people found children are less likely to look up to adults than in the past.

While more than a quarter of those questioned (28%) said they looked up to their father when they were young, around one in seven (14%) said they thought that children today look up to their fathers.

Some 32% of adults said they used to consider their mother a role model, 30% believe that children today now see their mother in the same way.

Just 5% of adults said they think children look up to their grandparents.

Rashid Iqbal, director of The Children’s Society’s National Mentoring Initiative, said: “This poll reflects our concerns that many children are living without positive role models.”

A 2 Hour Bonanza For Being On The Radio Monday - S05E03

It was totally an awesome Monday because I got to co-host for Horses Spilled Milk and Kristal Method on CKCU 93.1 FM. I won’t try to write a lot as I provide the audio from both shows, which you can only listen and not download. I hope I don’t get in trouble for it. It’s for my friends who missed out listening to me live.

A summary of Horses Spilled Milk were discussing about The Beatles, The Balconies (the local band), a bit on TV Shows (vampire related shows) and the Kanye West-Taylor Swift incident at the 2009 MTV VMAs. The lovely and main co-host, Erica, had to leave for class after the intro. I had to fill-in for this crazy edition of Horses Spilled Milk.

For Kristal’s show, if you are wondering about the second last song being played, here’s the music video provided at the bottom of this entry. Trust me, you will find the music video hilarious.

Hope you will enjoy listening to it.

Does Anybody Here Remember Vera Lynn? - Dame Tops Album Charts

My favorite song from Pink Floyd’s 1979 album, The Wall was “Vera Lynn.”

As a 17-year-old American, I didn’t know Vera was a real person, or that she had a song “We’ll Meet Again.”

The lyrics (see below) are much clearer to me now, although, the idea of the song was never lost on me.

Apparently, the British record buying public do remember Dame Vera as her greatest hits have gone to number one, making her the oldest living person to achieve such a distinction.

Unbelievably enough, the World War II era singer has made it to the top against the re-mastered versions of all the great Beatles’ albums.

Dame Vera, Dame Vera, what has become of you?

You have gone to the top again, now aged ninety-two.

Article and Interview at BBC: BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Dame Vera Lynn tops album chart

Pink Floyd’s 1979 Classic:

Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?

Remember how she said that, we would meet again, on some sunny day?

Vera! Vera!

What has become of you?

Does anybody else in here, feel the way I do?

French Pop | Vinyl Rip | MP3 320 Kbps | 74,3 Mb

PAM 67.233 Disques Capitol (Canada) “ Bécaud was born François Gilbert Léopold Silly on October 24, 1927, in the Mediterranean port city of Toulon, France. He developed quickly as a pianist, and by age nine, he was already studying at the Conservatoire de Nice. Bécaud scored the biggest hit of his career in 1961 with “Et maintenant,” a song he co-wrote with Pierre Delanoé that wound up ranking among French pop’s all-time classics. Translated into English as “What Now My Love,” it became a standard in America and Britain as well, recorded by Shirley Bassey, Sonny & Cher (a U.S. Top 20 hit in 1966), Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Andy Williams, and countless others. He also scored another huge hit with “Je t’appartiens,” which became a U.S. Top Ten hit for the Everly Brothers as “Let It Be Me”; the song was later recorded by soul singers James Brown and Jerry Butler, country star Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, and many more. Also known for “Un dimanche à Orly” (1963), the enormous hit “Nathalie” (1964; probably his second best-known song), “Quand il est mort le poète” (1965), the controversial pro-de Gaulle anthem “Tu le regretteras” (1965), and “L’important c’est la rose” (1967). Also, “Seul sur son étoile” was adapted into the English-language hit “It Must Be Him,” which Vikki Carr took into the U.S. Top Five in 1967. (Source: All Music Guide) ”

Bananarama - Viva

Bananarama has always represented this sort of invisible line I crossed when I was 12 years old.  Having just been given my first CD player, I sold my Game Boy (the first one – without color) and took 80 bucks to the record store in East Aurora, New York and there, peeking out from over the gray display rack, was a hot shiny copy of Pop Life.  Granted, we were already closing in on a decade since the Ramas had started chucking their banana peels at the police, and by pop standards, may have at that point been considered a bit “long in the tooth” since they weren’t exactly setting U.S. charts on fire save for Venus a few years earlier.  But I had faith.  The hot pink font and fishnets called out to me.  And even though I had no idea at the time that they had pulled a Bewitched and swapped Darrens on me with some chick named Jacqui (the Shakespears Sister CD would follow soon and the puzzle pieces would slowly come together), I added Pop Life to my purchase along with Jesus Jones and Corina.

At the time I had no idea, but this one event aligned the stars in a way that shifted my musical tastes to side with gay europop.  Do you know how well a cosmic event like this goes over in a middle class white suburban environment?  Or for that matter in 8th grade?  I know.  Hell.  But laying in bed, blasting songs like “Preacher Man”, “Long Train Running” and “Only Your Love”  boggled my mind as it raced thinking that there was a place that this music was played and loved.  (Note:  There was even a time that I purchased cassettes of both Tiffany’s latest release and Gun’n Roses and switched the cases so that when I was asked what I was bopping to I could pull out the case for Appetite For Destruction…little did they know I was secretly humming “I Think We’re Alone Now”…) Love for Kylie Minogue, Martika, and any pop chick with a single name soon followed.

Fast forward almost 20 more years and here they are again.  After 2006s Drama re-ignited both my love for the Ramas and their career, they’ve re-emerged with Viva.  Basically a continuation from where Drama left off, it’s more of the same, which, if you’re already a fan isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  On Viva, it’s all electro pop ditties and thick, doubled up vocals.

They keep the beat moving for the duration of the disc, starting with current single “Love Comes”.  It’s a grower and after a few plays the chorus begins to stick.  The keyboard/string opening of “Love Don’t Live Here” is a nice touch that morphs into a disco stomper.  There’s also a reworking of Iio’s “Rapture” that isn’t horrible and actually fits into the rest of the album quite well without sounding dated or copycat.  Another highlight is “The Runner”.  In the club or the gym, this will definitely keep you going!

Which is why the whole project is so frustrating.  Look at the material Girls Aloud, Sugababes and even The Saturdays churn out.  The majority of it is high quality and more often than not, single-worthy.  Yet here is pop royalty stuck singing songs other acts wouldn’t touch.  And while it’s been produced to sound as fresh as possible, it could be so much more.  It’s the potential I think about when I listen to Viva.  Imagine Bananarama belting out Sugababes “Girls” or Girls Aloud’s “The Promise”.  I know.  However, until the material improves, I’m happy to take what I can get, and Viva is still more than a nostalgia trip; it’s a good CD and a great night out! Recommended.

P.S. – “long in the tooth” whatever, check out the album cover.

“Llamó a Prince…

fixin to thrill

so as i mentioned before, DRAGONETTE ARE BACK! anyway, i fucking love dragonette and not only is there is new album hitting canadian stores this month, but dragonette are also heading out on tour. i already have tickets to the vancouver show next month and i’m very very excited. i missed their last proper show in edmonton because it was during exams. although ryan and i did catch them during capital ex, and i got my sunglasses case signed by the band, which was fabulous, obviously.

above is the video for ‘fixin to thrill.’ it is fantastic. [ryan, watch it all the the through and then tell me you don't love this song, the video really makes it extra amazing]

anyway, dragonette’s last album, the aptly titled ‘GALORE’ was about two years ahead of it’s time containing as it did intelligent, though-provoking, full on balls to the wall pop music, that has since started to creep into the zeitgeist. here is a clip of dragonette performing ‘black limousine’ and ‘i get around,’ from said album, live. [dan, watch until at least after the 2:32 mark where some really killer guitar action takes place]

dragonette also have a new song called ‘pick up the phone’ which is, some what predictably, amazing, and attached below. how are dragonette not the biggest band on the planet? everything about them is truly fantastic. how come people would line up and pay to watch bono and co. drop a (u) number two but dragonette remain ever so slightly under the radar? we really need some pop justice on this front oh merciful pop gods.

finally, just because i can’t resist martina and the boys, here is another song from dragonette’s upcoming second album. entitled ‘gone too far’ it is a fabulous fiddle affair and i adore it.

This is not a love song. These are 69

Progetto bellissimo, affascinante. Giusto che sia per un disco così

Facebook Lying Down Game Gets Hospital Workers Suspended

Seven members of a hospital staff in Swindon UK have been suspended for playing the “Lying Down” game on Facebook.

The brilliant object of the game is to have your picture taken while laying face down in unusual places.

The staff laid down in various places throughout the hospital and posted the images to Facebook.

Bosses didn’t see the humour and questioned 18 members of staff before suspended seven.

Adding insult to injury, the images have been taken down at the hospital’s request, denying the layabouts their 15 minutes of fame.

Interview Archive No. 2: The Swellers

As I mentioned previously, I have a few interviews that unfortunately never saw the light of day. The second chapter from The Trilogy of Year Old Interviews (name pending…) comes from Michigan pop punkers The Swellers:

So, who am I talking to and what do you play?

-Nick, and I sing and play guitar.

I think what you’re doing is quite unique at the moment. You take 90’s EpiFat skate punk and give it a bit of a modern twist. Is that the kind of direction you were after?

-We grew up on music from the 90’s basically, whether it be bands like NOFX, Millencolin, and Bouncing Souls, or The Wallflowers, Foo Fighters, and Weezer. We’re still kind of stuck in that “skate punk” rut, but our next album is going to round us out a little bit better. We’re just a pop/rock band with punk roots, honestly.

You seem to a have played shows with a strikingly wide variety of bands – from Mustard Plug to A Wilhelm Scream. Who have been your favourite bands to play with? Any tour stories you fancy sharing?

-I’m really proud of the fact that we can play with such a variety of bands. This year we’ve toured with A Wilhelm Scream and Less Than Jake, and soon to tour with Streetlight Manifesto and then Polar Bear Club. Wilhelm is definitely our favourite band to tour with just because we’re so close. When we tour together, we always follow each other on the highway, stay at the same places together every night, and have a great time. There are too many tour stories to remember, but there is some cool stuff in our Tour Videos on YouTube and MySpace, haha.

On the subject of touring, you have yet to grace the UK with your presence, can we expect you here any time soon?

-Coming to the UK and the rest of Europe is pretty expensive, so we want to make sure that when we DO come, it’s with a band that is experienced over there and does well. We’re still waiting on word if we’re coming over there this winter.. so we’re hoping! If not, we’ll just book our own UK/Euro tour and say “fuck it”. I just want to play out there!

Are there any upcoming bands on the US scene that you think deserve a mention?

-Definitely. A band called 2*Sweet is blowing me away right now. Really weird pop/punk mixed with like, Danzig and HIM influenced. Their name is really misleading, but the band rules. Also, Fireworks, our buddies from Detroit, just signed to Triple Crown Records, so I think they’re gonna blow up soon.

How much do you know about the UK ‘punk’ scene? Are there any bands you’ve heard recently that you’ve been impressed with?

-I haven’t heard much from the UK lately as far as underground music goes, but All Or Nothing and a band called Fastlane (don’t even know if they’re around anymore, we played with them in Japan) are pretty rad.

A lot of the lyrical content on your album ‘My Everest’ is quite dark – dealing with failed relationships and suicide. Do you find that putting these emotions to paper helps to deal with these issues? Or does it make singing these songs a bit of an emotional struggle?

-The lyrics are quite dark, for sure, but nothing about suicide yet (wait for the next record!). The darkest songs on “My Everest” are about a horrible car crash.. a friend’s accidental overdose and the following funeral.. Our home base of Flint, MI pretty much becoming a ghost town.. and there are a lot of biblical references that are pretty blasphemous. We aren’t a satanic band, but it’s fun to throw in creepy little things I learned when I was a catholic growing up. I never thought we’d perform “Skoots” or “Keep Looking” live, because they hit so close to home, but it actually makes performing them a lot more intense.

You were rumoured to be joining Nitro Records a while back; what happened with that? Would Nitro be a label you’d be interested to join?

-We were going to sign to Nitro, for sure. Had the contract in our hands.. Wilhelm, Much The Same, No Trigger, and Hit The Switch were all stoked we were gonna be part of the family.. but then Nitro told us they were out of money and can’t sign anymore bands. So we’re LUCKY we didn’t sign. Nitro hasn’t signed any bands since, and probably won’t. They put out that last Wilhelm record, and I think they’re done.

    Owl City Review

Is that the new Postal Service?

Nope, it’s Owl City, seeking to nudge into the teen market niche The Postal Service carved out. It’s hard to tell a difference with the elecctronic pop and repeat drum loops, and the faint, poetic vocals of the singer. All in all, he’s got a grip on the style though. Apparently relying on Myspace to gain grounds into this niche, he’s made it pretty far and gotten some air play with the new single “Fireflies”. I’ll admit, it’s a good song to chill-out to, but I fee like it’s missing one key element to bring it to the fame of the Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights”. For this reason, I’ll keep my ears perked for something great, and in the meantime I’ll have to check out his new album.

Sediul Asociatiei este in Budapesta-Ungaria.

Sinatra's Live At The Meadowlands to be released

On Friday 14th March 1986, Frank Sinatra played a legendary home coming show in New Jersey that has gone down in history as one of his greatest ever.

Released on 5th October, ‘Live At The Meadowlands’ captures the essence and uniqueness that can only be a Frank Sinatra live show.

The support act for The Meadowlands show was comedian and close friend of Sinatra’s Red Buttons. When he came off stage that night Frank asked Buttons ‘Well?’ to which he replied ‘Wow it’s the third world war out there!’ ‘What the hell did you expect?’ said Sinatra ‘You’re in my home territory here!’.

It was this hysteria and a stunning performance from Sinatra that inspired Universal Music to make this the first release from their recently announced multi-year license of 38 albums from Frank Sinatra’s Reprise catalogue.

This recording holds special significance among Sinatra fans as it’s one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find concert recordings of his career. Hank Cattaneo, Sinatra’s long time production manager and confidante, wrote the set’s liner notes.

Marie Digby's New Album: Breathing Underwater

The Winchester in Cleveland would like to say congratulations to Marié Digby on the release of her second album, “Breathing Underwater.”  Marié graced The Winchester’s stage along with Justin Nozuka and Eric Hutchinson on May 22nd, 2008.  Good luck into the future, Marié!

    Marie Digby (Esquire Magazine Photo)

    From Marié’s Myspace Page (www.myspace.com/mariedigby):

Marié Digby first hit the national stage when a homemade video of her performing an acoustic cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” made her a YouTube phenom (see video below).  “That was a really wonderful way to start. I could present myself exactly as I wanted,” says Digby, who first started writing her own songs at age 15 on a $50 guitar she bought on a whim.

Her first album, Unfold, debuted at 29 on the Billboard chart, 2 on the iTunes album chart, 3 on Billboard’s Digital Top 100 album chart and prompted a successful string of film and television placements for her songs including ER, Greek, The Hills, One Tree Hill, and Smallville.

Her brand new album “Breathing Underwater” will be out on Sept. 15th 2009 everywhere in the U.S. and Sept. 7th on Amazon.com (www.amazon.com.)

From the opening beats of Breathing Underwater, the listener encounters a bold new Marié Digby.  In marked contrast to the stripped-down vibe of her debut disc, Unfold, the album’s fuller sound enhances Marié’s (pronounced Mar-ee-AY) emotionally rich storytelling and dramatic vocals. The album is a deeply personal snapshot of her life—full of the kind of exposed emotions that make great songs.

“When I was making the album I was falling for someone—someone real and someone in front of me—and that was really scary,” she continues. “There were days when I thought, this most wonderful thing I’ve ever felt. And there were days when I was tormented. That intensity came through in the songs.”

A video of Marié Digby performing her song “Better Off Alone” on 5/22/08 at The Winchester in Cleveland:

[music:] Maurizio Monti, Diavolo custode (1976)

Promise is debt. So here comes the long-time lost second solo album by Maurizio Monti, Diavolo custode (”guardian devil”).

For those who fell in love with his debut full-length, L’amore (posted here some time ago), this one could be a slightly different experience. Monti embraces a much more twisted songwriting here, with such negative, cynical and hopelessly ironic lyrics that he seems possessed by Mauro Pelosi’s evil spirit; and while L’amore’s signature sound was that of both acoustic and electric piano, most of the tracks in Diavolo custode are built around guitars (Adriano Monteduro is credited in the backing band, which also counts Paolo Rustichelli on keyboards and Carlo Bordini on drums).

The subtly unconventional arrangements are by Monti himself together with Paolo Dossena – who’s in charge of the production as well – featuring staggering ambience shifts, breathtaking groove breaks (such as the coda to “La tessera del tram”, which the Air would willingly give a couple of kidneys for) and also Italian folk hints, especially when the rythm section takes a marching band pace, like in “Ruote” or “Cuore di rosa”.

    Here is the tracklist:

01, Io e la bambina (”me and the baby girl”)

    02, Piccolo animale (”little animal”)

    03, Ruote (”wheels”)

04, Cuore di rosa (”heart of rose”)

    05, Rosmarino (”rosemary”)

    06, Povero idiota (”poor idiot”)

07, La tessera del tram (”the tram pass”)

    08, Il diavolo (”the devil”)

Patience and Prudence: A Smile And a Ribbon

Patience and Prudence was a young sister singing act in the 1950s. Their father, Mark McIntyre, was an orchestra leader and pianist who accompanied Frank Sinatra in the ’40s.

Their whimsical, dreamy tunes captivated audiences in America and the UK, eventually pushing their most well-known commercial single, “Tonight You Belong to Me,” (Gene Austin cover, 1927) to #4 on the Billboard charts. This success made the sister duo an important act for Chattahoochee Records and Liberty Records (home of Eddie Cochran), who would release such singles as “A Smile And a Ribbon,” “Gonna Get Along without Ya Now” and “The Money Tree” (b-side to the before-mentioned).

They gained further success with appearances on The Perry Como Show and a Dick Clark television feature.

They released no full album, only six additional singles between 1957 and ‘59.

    Pink Floyd/Is There Anybody Out There?/The Wall-Live

The Wall is a double CD Rock Opera released in November 1979, by the seminal Progressive Rock Band Pink Floyd. The release is based on themes of personal self-inflicted isolation. The lead character of the story, Pink, is based on mastermind Roger Waters life. The story visits the struggles of life after Pink’s loss of his father in WWII, abuse by teachers, smothered by his mother and later deserted by his wife. This all results in an isolation from society, thus The Wall. This release has sold 30 million copies and is still the best selling double album of all time. This particular release is a live rendition of the classic double album. It was recorded in London in 1981 and is very cohesive and true to the studio recording. The review is a wide and rambling affair that I hope appeals to some of you.

    Disc 1:

Master Of Ceremonies—-The live show begins with nice crowd noise, some opera and a hilarious MC that warms you up as the anticipation rises higher and higher with the strains of instruments and then we begin the journey…..

In The Flesh?—–At once this welcomes you like a friend you havenot visited in a very long time. The sound is huge and remarkable for being live. The strains of the Floyd machine are incredible and I get goosebumps….30 years on!!!!!The vocals of Waters are incredible…there is no mistaking it and all of the background exclamations are repeated masterfully in this live setting. The tone of Waters makes you apprehensive and waiting the next ejection from his voice. Fantastic!

The Thin Ice—-Of course the familiar strains of the baby crying welcomes the mundane and morose sound of the song. The song gathers intensity and grows into a melodious beautiful sound that could make you weep. The piano is incredibleandthe feel of the song leaves you a tad uncomfortable.

Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 1—-An incredibly powerful and important piece of the story, the isolation begins and the feelings of desertion are planted…the first bricks of the Wall are firmly planted. The guitar is a jangly affair that leave you on the edge of you seat as you await a blast of noise…the tempo of the song only adds to the feelings of desolation. This is incredible and a really nice mellow listen!!!

The Happiest Days Of Our Lives—-The song has a trademark Floyd guitar feel…the vocal is a antastic emotive exclamation point. The chorus of back ground vocals lead us directly into….

Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2—-A huge international hit for the band, the song was banned in many countries because of a considered disrespect for teachers and education. Of course the video is a classic and it is integral to the storyline as well. Pink again experiences abuse and a growing distrust of society and only adds to the growing alienation. This is a wonderful song…the Gilmour guitar only adds to the emotion of the song.

Mother—-One of my favorite tracks on this release…I had a Mother just like this and have my own problems….but that is a different story altogether. The intro is a nice acoustic affair that offers up wonderful strains of keyboards and atmosphere. The vocal is a hauntinglydelivered excursion into a darkness that is both foreign and welcoming. I love this release!!! The song builds to a wonderful layered sound of ecstasy that never gets old or lets you down.

Goodbye Blue Sky—-As the airplanes circle and the forlorn child is heard, the gentle guitar intro is set in front of heavy synth sounds that were ground breaking for their time. The harmonizing chorus of voices are wonderfully delivered and he whole feel of the song leaves you dark and incredibly excited at the same time.

Empty Spaces—-The sounds of the crowd joyously welcomes the intro of this song and it’s short but powerfully building intro. The voice is almost sinister as the alienation grows and the disdain for life increases. The movements of the song are magnificent and add a sweet touch of experimentation that we expect from Floyd.

What Shall We Do Now?—-Very brief yet masterful andpowerful…not a song that was included on the original release, this short bit is pure bonus. The vocal harmonies that blend with the Gilmour guitaris incredible!

Young Lust—-Finally the band speaks to the audience and simply introduces the song that has every element of Floyd wrapped up in a few minutes. The slight funk bass is heavy, the jangly guitar is in the back….the vocal, so full of emotion is stronger than ever. This is a Floyd classic and to try to say something new seems futile…the song truly speaks for itself.

One Of My Turns—-One of the most fantastic songs on the release, it was the B-side to Another Brick In The Wall 2 and I became oddly addicted to it. The song is full of sound bites and a dark and eerie vocal delivery that just explodes as the song continues. When the song truly becomes it’s own, the result is full of magnificence and grandeur. This is magnificent!!!

Don’t Leave Me Now—-The song is a deep and plodding piece from the onset with subtle breath sounds and a vocal that is too high and odd in delivery. But….it works in a way that is indescribable. The tone of the song has a real experimental edge to it and worked really well in the conceptual film. This is wonderful!!!

Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 3—-The famous television smashing scene from the movie, Pink is in the depth of his despair and isolation…his level of distrust is at an all time high and it grows from simple alienation to a slight psychosis. The song reveals the familiar strains throughout the release in a musical sense and it is cohesive in a masterful manner.

The Last Few Bricks—-Densely layered with trademark Floyd sounds, the song still holds the feel and sound of the previous track….this is wonderful as a tie in to all that is happening in the story line…one of the most cohesive conceptual releases ever.

Goodbye Cruel World—-Eerie and intense, the closing strains to this chapter are cold and morose….sudden and sad….shocking and full of expectation for the next chapter…..Goodbye.

    Disc 2:

Hey You—-As the second act commences, the sound of the Floyd machine is as powerful as ever. This begins a ’suite’ of songs that are my personal favorite on the record. The 6 songs in the second act are integral to the story anddone with an incredible energy and mood. The guitars flux between acoustic and metallic. the drums are huge and so in front of the mix, you would be deaf to miss them. the vocal is pained and intense. This is exquisite!

Is There Anybody Out There?—-The interesting soundbites continue and add little interludes to the songs….this song has that low hum and the pained vocal as alienation and isolation over take the character. Pieces of the wall begin to come down on the live stage and you can hear the crowd react…as we enter…

Nobody Home—-More charming little sounds play in the background as one of the finest releases on the CD is premiered. The technical qualities of this release are incredible. that they were able to produce all of these small sounds and intricacies live is astounding. the voice is in full force of emotion and pain. Waters must be a really intense guy!!!. This song is full of haunting lyrics and sounds and they work together amazingly well.

Vera—-Masterful short interlude that just adds to the depth and the despair of the sound of the record. Waters is a genius and although Gilmour said this was an unnecessary part of the record…I strongly disagree.

Bring The Boys Back Home—–A very militaristic sounding song that builds in emotion for the coup’de’tat of the releases……..

Comfortably Numb—–The song is a heavily layered guitar song that just soars higher and higher as the song continues. One of the best guitar solos in modern history, the vocals are also taken over by Gilmour to a masterful effect. This is one of the most brilliant songs ever recorded and I never tire of hearing it.

The Show Must Go On—-Very gentle and eerie, the vocal harmonies are fantastic. The oohs and ahhsare just incredible and the short but sweet message of the song is clear……face life or dig deeper into your tortured soul….Pink chooses the former because of intervention…or at least that is my interpretation. Fantastic.

Master Of Ceremonies——Interesting but unnessary….kindof funny….kindof peculiar as the band finally busts down the wall and appears before the audience in person…….

In The Flesh—-Combining musical components that have been present throughout the entire release , the song is a tour de force of guitar and drum muscle….the vocal deliveries are songs of the same elements with different words and verses, but the feelings remain intact. The vocal delivery is magical and not to be lost in the mix. The live delivery only adds to the power of the song…this is incredible.

Run Like Hell—-Powerful anddelivered live with an incredible flavor, the song is a powerful piece of integration to the entire story. The band begins to interact with the live audience, nor that the Wall has been dismantled and the reaction is of of glee. The guitars are classic Gilmour and the drums are right in the front of your forehead. This is classic and never, never grows old.

Waiting For The Worms—-The band continues to interact with the audience, but never looses fact of the story line……even as Pink begins to find his way back into the world. Waters delivers a vocal that is so telling and true that you worry about his own mental health. The gentle keyboards that play throughout the song are integral to the feeling of the song. the background soundbites are included and work to an incredible effect. This is an incredible live rendition of a classic release.

Stop—-A short and brief interlude that is full of keyboards and an emotive vocal that leads into….

The Trial—-A fun and circus sounding intro that reminds me of Pinocchio for some reason!!! The vocal sounds are almost silly, but the message of the song is incredible. As Pink discovers life, he is banished to the land of the feeling. As he breaks from his isolation, he is ordered to never return to the land of the dark and isolated. This is powerful….and of course, depending on the day the entire release could mean something different to me.

Outside The Wall—-The album ends in a magnificent manner, re-visiting strains of numerous songs and lyrics. The feel is almost one of joy as Pink discovers life in the outside world and away from the wall. This is an incredible listen…one I revisit often, but not too often…lest I build my own Wall even higher.

    LOVE vs POP

Since Dan started working at Vice I’ve started paying a lot more attention to the magazine.  Over the past 6 months I think it has improved hugely and has become a lot more interesting since it stopped being so, well, Vice.  Anyway, that’s a subject for a whole other blog post.  The Vice Fashion Blog has been a bit all over the place but recently it seems to be churning you some pretty interesting and amusing pieces, the latest of which caught my eye as it’s a very au courant debate, that of POP vs LOVE.

I have only just got my copies for each so am as yet undecided, however POP definitely wins the cover competition, though the Coco Sumner LOVE cover is better than the Alex one which is all a bit meh and a bit too like the Hedi Slimane goes boy mad shots, but not as good.  Proper verdict to come later.

Lady GaGa Photoshoot for V Magazine - Pictures in Current Issue

The new Lady GaGa photoshoot for V Magazine could aptly be title, “The Naked and the Fluffy.”

Not shy on either nakedness, nor fluffiness, the fashion-extreme pop singer calls to mind Brian Slade’s wife in the classic movie “Velvet Goldmine.”

The issue is available now, and the cover features GaGa in a nuclear pink Marc Jacobs’ hooded coat.
