Why Diet Coke is Worse than Regular Coke

First off, no soda is good for you.  Diet, no diet, low sugar, no sugar, one calorie, 100 calories, whatever the case… it’s no good.  With regards to diet coke, I had an interesting discussion yesterday that I’d like to share.

Even though on paper diet coke is “better” for you than coke (the effects of sugar substitutes they add to make it “healthier” is another topic), diet coke does waaaaaay more to make Americans unhealthy.  Why?  It’s because Diet Coke gives Americans an excuse.  “It’s got no sugar, therefore it’s not bad for me.”  How many more people do you know that are on a diet coke “addiction” versus a regular coke addiction?  Just consider diet soda in general… isn’t it true that you find a lot of people drinking diet soda on an alarmingly consistent basis?  Way more than regular soda, right?  It’s because we are led to believe that diet soda isn’t that bad for us, so we decide to drink it everyday.  Dig a little deeper and there are actually websites devoted to breaking diet soda addictions, here is one of them: www.dietdrinkaddiction.com.  In an article from Princeton University one diet coke addict offers that diet coke is so sweet it, it may actually cause more cravings than normal soda, due to it’s abnormally high artificial sweetener content.

Stop drinking it, live better.
