At the heart of the Chicago band Gold Motel is Greta Morgan who some of you might know already from her former band The Hush Sound that released three albums from 2005-2008.
The band’s self-titled EP is a little music morsel to hold fans over until their full-length release comes out in June. If you haven’t heard Gold Motel’s music before then you’re in for a real treat.
Greta Morgan’s lead vocals nail every note as she sings about relationship issues on the songs. The first several tracks are more optimistic about things maybe working out while the remaining ones are darker and deal with coming to terms that the relationship is really over.
Besides her great vocals Greta Morgan’s keyboard work, especially her piano playing, works really well driving the songs to their intended destinations.
The 5-songs that make up this EP are mostly pop in style, often opening with lively piano parts and tend to be on the more up-tempo side. One exception is the track, “Who Will I Be Tonight?” that’s done in a more melodic singer songwriter style.
This self-titled EP from Gold Motel really works well to showcase a more classic pop style of music.
