Formed in 2008 out of the ashes of two Birmingham, UK hardcore rock bands (Forever Ends Today and Cassettes Lost Meaning) Kyoto Drive first hit the music scene with their 4-song EP, Spotlights & Stars, that they gave away for free to get the band’s name out there amongst the masses. Now the band is back with their full-length debut, This Is All We Ever Wanted on Pacific Ridge Records in the US and Engineer Records in the UK.

The band’s sound is a pretty straight forward pop-punk that at points slides towards a more melodic pop-rock style similar sounding to bands like, Relient K, Jimmy Eat World, Saves The Day, and New Found Glory.

The band’s songs are very catchy, driven by lively guitar parts, be they melodic or in your face hard edged, along with steady drum beats. The lead vocals are filled with passion and you’ll also find some nicely done backing vocals that range from melodic to group shouts in style.

Lyrically the songs found on, This Is All We Ever Wanted, deal with the life of a band and the different struggles involved with it. Love and relationships is another subject dealt with in the band’s songs.

Highlight tracks include, “I’d Give It All”, “Are You Taking Me Apart Just To See How My Insides Work?”, “It’s Not About Revenge”, “Don’t Make It Personal”, and “Hold Your Head High.”

This Is All We Ever Wanted ends with the very powerful emotion-filled 8-minutes plus track, “Waiting.” For the most part the song is an acoustic guitar ballad but it ends with a shot of different noises and sounds.

The album’s official release date is January 26, 2010 with a tour planned for January and February in support of the release. The tour will include band friend’s Maycomb. Checkout the band’s website for more information and tour dates.
